APSK Activities

The Annual Scientific Symposium is the main mechanism through which APSK's objectives are met, that is, providing a forum for stakeholders – professionals and practitioners - to get together and share views on issues germane to livestock production. Therefore, every one of these annual meetings focuses on a major contemporary issue or sets of issues which require attention. These may be new technologies or approaches, emerging challenges, controversial issues with implications for livestock production that require rational conversation, national or regional trends which may have consequences for animal agriculture. The APSK 2019 symposium focused on the theme – ‘Livestock Transformation Agenda: Towards Climate Smart Livestock Production Systems". Specific attention was given to:

  1. Climate smart livestock systems and environment: Identifying and addressing the convergences.
  2. Pastoral livestock systems: Which way now? Is feedlot an opportunity for emerging meat markets?
  3. Opportunities and prospects for transforming ruminant livestock systems in Kenya.
  4. Transforming poultry and pig systems: Options for the future.
  5. Policy, value chains, markets, gender, social safeguards and other cross-cutting issues affecting livestock production.
